Gem of Darkness, 15' Radius (Obsidian) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, it causes total, impenetrable darkness in the area of effect. Infravision is useless. Neither normal nor magical light works unless a light or continual light spell is used. In the former event, the darkness spell is negated by the light spell, and vice versa. The darkness lasts for two hours and then dissipates.

Gem of Deadly Darts (Tiger Eye) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the enchantment causes thirty-four normal darts to come into existence, streaking towards their appointed target(s). The fact that these darts, once created, are normal, makes them unaffected by shield, globe of invulnerability, or anti-magic shell type spells. However, each dart must be rolled for to hit, at the gem-user's level as though he were a fighter. The enchantment's range is two hundred and thirty yards. There is no saving throw allowed

Gem of Dexterity (Turquoise) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, this gem increases the Dexterity of the user by a number of points. Benefits of the dexterity boost last for the duration of the gem's enchantment. The amount of added Dexterity depends upon the gem user's group and is subject to all restrictions on Dexterity due to race and class. Multiclass characters use the best die. Dexterity Class Gain Priest 1d6 points Rogue 1d8 points Warrior 1d6 points Wizard 1d4 points The gem's enchantment cannot confer a Dexterity of 21or more, nor is it cumulative with other magic that adds to Dexterity. Beings without Dexterity scores (kobolds, lizard men, etc.) receive a +1 to attack rolls. The gem's effect's last for 15 hours and then fade away. The user must wait 2 hours after the effects have worn off before expending another charge of the gem. Boosting the user's dexterity before the 2 hour interval has elapsed will cause the user to make a system shock roll. If the user fails the system shock roll he collapses and is unconscious for 24 hours.

Gem of Dimension Door (Deep Blue Spinel) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem user instantly transfers himself up to 300 yards distance. This special form of teleportation allows for no error, and the user always arrives at exactly the spot desired - whether by simply visualizing the area (within spell transfer distance, of course) or by stating direction such as, "150 yards straight downward," or, "upward to the northwest, 45 degree angle, 300 yards." If the gem user arrives in a place that is already occupied by a solid body, he remains trapped in the Astral Plane. If distances are stated and the gem user arrives with no support below his feet (i.e., in mid-air), falling and damage result unless further magical means are employed. All that the user wears or carries, subject to a maximum weight equal to 500 pounds of nonliving matter, or half that amount of living matter, is transferred with the gem user. Recovery from use of a gem of dimension door requires one round.

Gem of Elven Archer Summoning (Laeral's Tear) When the command word for this gem is spoken, within one round, the gem-user magically conjures 2d4 elven archers. The archers appear anywhere within a 30 yard radius of the gem-user, as desired by the user. They attack the gem- user's opponents to the best of their ability until either he commands that the attacks cease, the enchantment's duration expires, or the elven archers are slain. These creatures do not check morale, but they vanish when slain. Note that if no opponent exists to fight, the summoned archers can, if the gem-user can communicate with them and if they are physically able, perform other services for the summoner. At the end of the enchantments duration the remaining elven archers vanish and return to where they originally came from. The enchantment's duration is 15 rounds then another charge from the gem must be expended to summon more elven archers. Stats: AC 5, 9 HP, THAC0 18, #Att 2, Dam 1-6,1-6, Size 5' tall, Move 12

Gem of Empathic Healing (Bloodstone) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem's enchantment enables the user to transfer a certain loss in hit points from another creature to himself, thus curing the recipient. Up to 28 hit points may be transferred, so the gem-user could cure his friend of a 28-hp wound (but the gem-user will then take 28 hp in damage himself). The hit-point loss could have originally resulted from physical attacks, certain poisons, spell effects, diseases, or curses (except those that cannot be removed by remove curse). This enchantment cannot restore amputated limbs, drained life levels, or death. It also cannot undo any continuously acting poison or disease, so the gem's enchantment only temporarily reverses such harm, which will then continue to affect the victim. If the gem-user is brought below zero hit points by use of the gem of empathic healing, he begins to die. No effect results from using the gem on the deceased character.

Gem of Flight (Clear Quartz) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, it enables the gem user to bestow the power of magical flight upon himself. The gem user is able to move vertically and horizontally at a rate of 18 (half that if ascending, twice that if descending in a dive). The maneuverability class of the creature is B. Flying requires as much concentration as walking, so most spells can be cast while hovering or moving slowly (movement of 3). Possible combat penalties while flying are known to the DM (found in the "Aerial Combat" section of Chapter 9 of the DMG). The exact duration from this magical item is three hours.

Gem of Growth (Pink Coral) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem causes the height and weight of the creature holding it to increase. Garments and other worn and carried gear also grow in size. Each charge expended from the gem causes 6 feet of height growth. Weight increases should be proportional to the change in height. Strength is increased sufficiently to allow bearing armor and weapons commensurate with the increased size, but does not provide combat bonuses. Movement increases to that of a giant of approximately equal size.

Gem of Haste (Star Rose Quartz) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem user functions at double his normal movement and attack rates. The hasted gem user gains a -2 initiative bonus. Thus, a creature moving at 6 and attacking once per round would move at 12 and attack twice per round. Spellcasting and spell effects are not sped up. Note that this spell negates the effects of a slow spell. Additionally, this spell ages the recipient by one year, because of sped-up metabolic processes. This gem effect is not cumulative with itself or with other similar magic.

Gem of Hold Portals (Green Sapphire) When the command word for this gem is spoken, the gem's enchantment magically bars a door, gate, or valve of wood, metal, or stone. The magical closure holds the portal fast, just as if it were securely closed and locked. Any extraplanar creature (djinn, elemental, etc.) with 4 or more Hit Dice can shatter the enchantment and burst open the portal. A wizard of 14 or more experience levels can open the held portal at will. A knock spell or a successful dispel magic spell can negate the hold portal effect. Held portals can be broken or physically battered down. The gem's effect lasts for 2 turns.

Gem of Household Cantrips (Rainbow Obsidian) When this magical gem stone is held and the command word is spoken, it activates one of the four cantrip abilities enchanted into this item. The powers of this gem are as follows: Clean, This cantrip enables the wielder to remove heavy soil, dirt, and like foreign objects from floors, walls, dishes, windows, etc. The subject surfaces are then spotless, germ free, but care must be taken in removal of pigments and the like, so usually only one type of material will be treated in a single application. Dust, This cantrip removes all fine dust and tiny grit particles from exposed surfaces such as floors, shelves, walls, etc. The material so removed is transported elsewhere, but new dust can accumulate, of course. Polish, When this cantrip is used, the wielder magically smoothes and brings a luster to materials such as wood, metal, stone, leather, or ceramic. Naturally, the desired object must be relatively clean in order for the cantrip to be effective. The object affected must be of reasonable size -- a floor of up to 1,000 square feet, an armoire, etc. It works better on smaller objects, of course, such as boots, mirrors, crystal containers, etc. Shine, Similar to the polish cantrip, this magic allows the wielder to remove tarnish, rust, corrosion, and similar substances from the desired object. This cantrip brings about a mirror-bright shine to objects capable of such, causing their surfaces to be smooth and unmarred. A single object up to about 12 cubic yards in volume can be treated by this cantrip. While this is not a powerful magical item, it is greatly prized and sought after by members of the halfling race as it makes their lives much easier.

Gem of Improved Invisibility (Amethyst) This magical gem stone is similar to the normal gem of invisibility, but the user is able to attack, either by missile discharge, melee combat, or spellcasting, and remain unseen. Note, however, that telltale traces (such as a shimmering effect) sometimes allow an observant opponent to attack the invisible gem user. These traces are only noticeable when specifically looked for (after the invisible character has made his presence known). Attacks against the invisible character suffer -4 penalties to the attack rolls, and the invisible character's saving throws are made with a +4 bonus. Beings with high Hit Dice that might normally notice invisible opponents will notice a creature using this magical item as if they had 2 fewer Hit Dice (they roll saving throws vs. spell; success indicates they spot the character).

Gem of Improved Shield (White Eye Agate) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, an invisible barrier comes into being in front of the gem user. This shield totally negates magic missile attacks. It provides the equivalent protection of AC -3 against hand-hurled missiles (axes, darts, javelins, spears, etc.), AC -2 against small device-propelled missiles (arrows, bolts, bullets, manticore spikes, sling stones, etc.) and AC -1 against all other forms of attack. The shield also adds a +6 bonus to the gem user's saving throws against attacks that are basically frontal. Note that these benefits apply only if the attacks originate from in front of the user, where the shield can move to interpose itself.

Gem of Infravision (Ruby) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem user enables himself to see in normal darkness up to 60 feet without light. Note that strong sources of light (fire, lanterns, torches, etc.) tend to blind this vision, so infravision does not function efficiently in the presence of such light sources. Invisible creatures are not detectable by infravision.
