Magical Gems - The gems section is probably the largest, so I have them divided off on separate shelves. The gems are my favorites, they sing to me *grin*, and they take and hold the enchantments very nicely. So I have done extensive work with them which is why there are so many. Gem of Air Walking (Clear Quartz)
This gem enables the user, which can be as big as the largest giant, to tread upon air as if he were walking on solid ground. Moving upward is similar to walking up a hill. A maximum upward angle of 45 degrees is possible at one-half the user's movement rate, as is a maximum downward angle of 45 degrees at the normal movement rate. An air-walking creature is in control of his movement, except when a strong wind is blowing. In this case, the gem-user gains or loses 10 feet of movement for every 10 miles per hour of wind velocity. The user can, at the DM's option, be subject to additional penalties in exceptionally strong or turbulent winds, such as loss of control of movement or suffering physical damage.
The gem's enchantment can be placed upon a trained mount, so it can be ridden through the air. Of course, a mount not accustomed to such movement would certainly need careful and lengthy training, the details for which are up to the DM.
The gem's enchantment lasts for 3 hours and then another charge must be expended.

Gem of Animal Growth (Tiger Eye) When the command word is spoken, the gem-user causes all designated animals, up to a maximum of eight, within a 20-foot-cube area to grow to twice their normal size. The effects of this growth are doubled Hit Dice (with improvement in attack rolls) and doubled damage in combat. The gem's enchantment range is 60 yards. The enchantment lasts for fifteen rounds and then another charge from the gem must be expended. Only natural animals, including giant forms, can be affected by this gem.

Gem of Anti-Vermin Barrier (Brown Smoky Topaz) With this gem, the user creates an invisible force field that repels nonmagical insects, rodents, spiders, snakes, worms, and similar vermin of less than 1 Hit Die. The gem has no effect on giant-sized versions of these creatures unless they are less than 1 Hit Die. The barrier affects summoned creatures, such as those called by a summon insects spell. Any vermin within the area of effect when the gem is activated are affected and will leave the area of affect as fast as possible; however, when these creatures exit the area, they cannot return. The gem affects a cubic area of 60 feet, and the effect last for 12 hours.

Gem of Aura of Comfort (White Eye Agate) When the command word is spoken, the enchantment of this gem causes a faintly shimmering aura to surround the user. The aura insulates the user from the effects of nonmagical heat and cold in a range of -20º F. to 140º F. Any time the gem-user encounters temperatures in this range, he maintains a comfortable temperature of 70º F., regardless of prevailing weather conditions. Additionally, the enchantment acts as a shield against rain, snow, and hail, which are blocked by the aura. If the gem-user encounters a temperature above or below the stated range, the temperature within the aura is altered by an equal number of degrees. For example, a user who encounters a temperature of 150º F will actually experience a temperature of 80° F. All physical objects other than rain, snow, and hail can pass through the aura. The gem-user can cast spells normally while the aura of comfort is in effect. This magical item offers protection against magically generated weather, such as that caused by weather summoning and ice storm. It does not protect against fire, nor does it shield against fire-based or cold-based attacks.

Gem of Bigby's Construction Crew (Orbaline) When the command word for this gem is spoken, this gem creates 17 pairs of hands. All of the hands come equipped with carpentry tools. The hands do the work of a construction team equal in ability to any crew of professional carpenters, masons, miners, or sappers. The hands never need to rest or eat. Each pair performs as one worker. They are unable to fight or inflict physical damage on anything. They cannot be destroyed by non-magical means and each pair has 20 hit points. The hands remain for the duration of the gem's enchantment, unless they are dismissed sooner by the gem user. The duration of each enchantment lasts for 12 hours.

Gem of Black Bear Summoning (Black Opal) When the command word for this gem is spoken, within one round, the gem-user magically conjures 1d4 black bears. The bears appear anywhere within a 50 yard radius of the gem-user, as desired by the user. They attack the gem-user's opponents to the best of their ability until either he commands that the attacks cease, the enchantment's duration expires, or the bears are slain. These creatures do not check morale, but they vanish when slain. Note that if no opponent exists to fight, the summoned black bears can, if the gem-user can communicate with them and if they are physically able, perform other services for the summoner. At the end of the enchantments duration the remaining bears vanish and return to where they originally came from. The enchantment's duration is 17 rounds, then another charge from the gem must be expended to summon more bears. Gem of Blackfire (Jet) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, a cold, black fire appears in the gem-user's hand, shedding violet colored light equivalent to torchlight. The gem-user can hold the blackfire without taking damage or throw it at an opponent. Throwing it at an opponent requires a roll to hit. If the sphere hits, the target ignites the creature's life force doing 1d6 points of damage the first round and 1d3 the following rounds until extinguished. The flames can be extinguished by padding them out, but water has no effect. The flames only consume living matter (creatures and plants) and have no effect on non-living material or undead. The end product of blackfire combustion is oxygen and a grey-blue ash. The gem's enchantment lasts for 15 turns. The enchantment's area of effect is a one-foot radius sphere. There are no saving throws allowed.

Gem of the Blizzard (Snowflake Obsidian) When the command word is spoken, this gem's effect is similar to the 6th-level "control weather" spell in that it allows the gem-user to alter the weather in a large area for several hours. The difference is that a blizzard is the only condition that can be created by this gem. The blizzard consists of very strong winds, arctic cold, deep clouds, and heavy snowfall. Travel in the affected area becomes very difficult, and visibility is reduced to 3 feet. Exposed creatures suffer from cold damage, frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold-related maladies unless shelter or protective clothing is found. The blizzard runs its course in 3d6 hours unless it is countered earlier by stronger magic (control weather or wish, for example). Once the gem's enchantment has expired, the normal weather conditions return within one turn, but the accumulated snow and ice remain until they thaw naturally. The gem's enchantment affects an area of 3d4 square miles.

Gem of Bloodfire (Bloodstone) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the enchantment engulfs one target creature with purple fire that burns for 6d4 points of damage on round 1, then loses 1d4 points of damage per round until it goes out. The flames do not ignite flammable objects, they just hurt creatures. The range of the gem's enchantment is 40 yards. The target creature receives a saving throw, if successful, the victim only takes half damage. The saving throw check needs to be made each round.

Gem of Brown Bear Summoning (Hyacinth) When the command word for this gem is spoken, within one round, the gem-user magically conjures 1d3 brown bears. The bears appear anywhere within a 70 yard radius of the gem-user, as desired by the user. They attack the gem- user's opponents to the best of their ability until either he commands that the attacks cease, the enchantment's duration expires, or the bears are slain. These creatures do not check morale, but they vanish when slain. Note that if no opponent exists to fight, the summoned brown bears can, if the gem-user can communicate with them and if they are physically able, perform other services for the summoner. Gem of Cause Rain (Orange Carnelian) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, it creates a sudden torrential burst of rain, even in underground settings or inside buildings. This takes effect immediately and lasts for 10 rounds. The spell will reduce fire damage by 2d4 points. Long range missile fire becomes impossible, and short range missile fire is made with a -6 to hit. Fire based magic is instantly dispelled, while any flaming magical weapons are nullified for the gem's spell duration. The area covered by the rain storm is 100 feet.

Gem of the Chamber of Soothing Waters (Blue Topaz) When this gem is held and the command word "Kalgon take me away" is spoken, this gem creates a room-sized pool of hot water, suitable for bathing in. The outside of the sphere is 15 feet in diameter and opaque green, so that passers-by cannot intrude on the bathers, but those in the bath can see out. The water is always at the desired temperature of the gem-user, provided he is actually in the water, and constantly refreshes itself throughout the duration of the enchantment (14 hours). It is possible to drink the bathwater, but this has two side-effects. Anyone foolish, or desperate enough to do so, must save vs. poison at +2 or fall immediately ill, retching and choking, due to the oils and soaps in the water. Anyone who becomes ill will be at -2 to all proficiencies for the next 12 hours. Furthermore, at the conclusion of the enchantment, the bath and its water disappear, so that anyone who has drunk the bathwater to slake a thirst may end up very thirsty after all.

Gem of the Cloud of Purification (Blue Quartz) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, this gem creates a billowy cloud of magical vapors that moves in the direction of the prevailing wind at a rate of 20 feet per round. A strong wind (greater than 15 miles per hour) breaks it up in 4 rounds, and a greater wind (25 MPH or more) prevents the use of the spell. Thick vegetation disperses the cloud in 2 rounds. The cloud of purification transmutes organic filth, garbage, and vermin (mice, rats, rot grubs, and so on) into an equal quantity of pure water. For example, a nest of rot grubs caught in the cloud would "melt," becoming small puddles of clean water. If the gem's enchantment is cast over a body of water, the cloud merges with a portion of the water equal to its own size, transmuting any filth, microbes, small fish, or other "impurities" into clean water. The cloud's vapors are heavier than air, so they sink to the lowest level of the land (even down holes in the ground). Thus, this gem's enchantment is perfect for cleansing a sewer or well. This enchantment in no way affects magical creatures or creatures larger than a normal rat. The enchantment's area of effect is 240 cubic feet, the range is 30 yards. Once the 12 round duration expires, another charge must be expended from the gem in order to bring about another cloud of purification.

Gem of Constitution (Black Sapphire) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, this gem increases the Constitution of the user by a number of points. Benefits of the constitution boost last for the duration of the gem's enchantment. The amount of added Constitution depends upon the gem user's group and is subject to all restrictions on Constitution due to race and class. Multiclass characters use the best die. Constitution Class Gain Priest 1d6 points Rogue 1d6 points Warrior 1d8 points Wizard 1d4 points The gem's enchantment cannot confer a Constitution of 21or more, nor is it cumulative with other magic that adds to Constitution. Beings without Dexterity scores (kobolds, lizard men, etc.) receive a +1 to attack and damage rolls. The gem's effect's last for 15 hours and then fade away. The user must wait 2 hours after the effects have worn off before expending another charge of the gem. Boosting the user's constitution before the 2 hour interval has elapsed will cause the user to make a system shock roll. If the user fails the system shock roll he collapses and is unconscious for 24 hours.

Gem of Cool Strength (Yellow Chrysoberyl) This gem when activated prevents sunstroke, heat exhaustion, sunburn, and other harmful effects associated with hostile environments. The effects last for 12 hours. This gem is useful for desert travel as well as long voyages at sea - anywhere blistering heat is abundant and fresh water is scarce. Even a cold-blooded or water based creature can benefit from this item. This gem keeps damp-skinned creatures damp. However, it does not allow water breathing creatures to function on dry land. This gem cannot stave off the vultures indefinitely. Once the effects from the agate of cool strength ends, the gem must recharge for six hours before it can function again.

Gem of Create Food & Water (Topaz: Golden yellow) When the command word for this magical stone is spoken, the gem-user causes food and water to appear. The food thus created is highly nourishing if rather bland; each cubic foot of the material sustains three human-sized creatures or one horse-sized creature for a full day. The food decays and becomes inedible within 24 hours, although it can be restored for another 24 hours by casting a purify food and water spell upon it. The water created by this gem is the same as that created by the 1st-level priest spell create water. For each charge expended, the gem-user can create up to 12 cubic feet of food or water. For example, the gem-user could create 6 cubic feet of food and 6 cubic feet of water.
